Replace the alternator

We got this Wellcraft in trade, for our Bayliner 2550 (even up trade). Our first test ride was a success, but in the confusion of trailering (our very first time), I had hooked up the battery incorrectly. Yup, black to positive and red to negative, and sparks were flying out of the alternator.

I quickly discovered my error, within 30 seconds. But I never trusted the alternator after that. So, I bought a new alternator off of eBay for $85, and decided to replace it.

The alternator is held in with 2 bolts, and it has a couple of wires attached. Pretty straight-forward stuff. Plus, it is such easy access to get to the alternator.

I felt good replacing it. The voltage reading with the old alternator always hovered around 10-11. With the new alternator, it is closer to 12-13. And we haven't had a battery run out of juice yet.
