Reed valve

So, here is my Yamaha Waverunner III. It starts easy in the driveway. But the instant I put it in the water, it takes forever to get it started.

After researching the internet, I've come to the conclusion that I need new reed valves. Reed valves are not uncommon on 2-stroke motors (my outboards have them).

The reed valves are located under the carburator.

Here is a pictue of a reed valve. After I pulled off my carburator, I found one of my two reed valves was broken. The center reed had broken off. Lucky for me, if was still stuck under the reed valves and had not been sucked up by the engine.

The reed valves are located directly under the carb. So, I replaced the one broken reed valve, and voila, no more issues starting in the water.
