Boating Has Been Very Good To Us
1987 Bayliner 2550
Purchased in 1996, this is our first boat. I still remember the feeling that this was a huge boat, a real cruiser.
And she was a great family boat for us. We kept it for 9 years, until we out-grew it in 2004.
1996-2002
1996-2002 - Pretty much flawless. Replace the usual stuff, oil, impellers, spark plugs, and she runs and runs.
New Motor
2003 - Well, while driving back to the marina after a very successful day of perch fishing in the Fall, the motor starts making a racket of noise, and is steaming hot.
It's too late: Somehow, I lost all the oil and the motor is toast. Bear in mind, I'm fairly well versed with motors, so I just can't believe I was stupid enough not to have oil in the motor. Somehow, I lost all the oil?
Long story short: Replace the motor ($4000). The new motor is a dream. Much more powerful and dependable.
